2021 Event Updates
April 7, 2021
Dear Bike the West Ride Participants & Friends,
Thank you for your patients and continued interest and support of Bike the West. We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and hope to produce events in 2021. Much progress has been made by CDC in lessening the threat of Covid and making the vaccine more available, though there are still many unknowns for us to navigate through to produce our rides in two states and several county / city jurisdictions. Thank you for your sacrifices in stopping the spread…
Our 29th Annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride, scheduled for Sunday, June 6, 2021 will officially NOT take place. We have attempted to put something together but a group ride is not going to be practical for June 6, 2021. We are sorry that we will not be able to produce the ride due to continuing covid restrictions projected to be in place in June…
2021 Virtual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride
Powered by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society:
For over 25 years, Bike the West and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) have partnered together for America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride to deliver an experience unlike any other. In that time, nearly 27,000 riders have raised over $106 million for LLS's mission to cure blood cancers as part of the Team In Training program. Bike the West is proud to partner with Team In Training to continue this tradition and bring our beloved bike ride to you with the 2021 Virtual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride, powered by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition Tahoe Bike Challenge:
The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition has benefitted with donation proceeds from AMBBR to fund many of their annual projects including the Bike Safe Lake Tahoe bicycle safety campaign, printing and distribution of Lake Tahoe Bike Maps, Bike Valet at many local events and the Annual Tahoe Bike Challenge program for the month June. Bike the West and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition are working together to create a membership drive and invite everyone to ride around Lake Tahoe, any day in the month of June. Join the Tahoe Bike Challenge, get out of your vehicles, ride your bike and log your miles to win prizes… Individuals, families, friends, teams, etc. are invited to participate… To participate is FREE at: www.lovetoride.net/tahoe, but we are also working on a Special Event Category to register, with a donation fee and receive 1 year membership, an America’s Most Beautiful T-shirt, Water Bottle and Ride Medal… Stay tuned for details on how you can participate and join the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition… Info: www.tahoebike.org
Tour de Tahoe: We have met with our Departments of Transportation and with both California & Nevada Highway Patrols, as well as all local law enforcement agencies to discuss Tour de Tahoe, set for Sunday, September 12, 2021. They support our efforts to produce the ride with covid restrictions that may in place in September… So, we are moving forward to get approvals for the combined events: America’s Most Beautiful Tour de Tahoe 2021
Please bare-in-mind, that our ride is conducted in 2 states, both California & Nevada, 2 counties in California: El Dorado Co. & Placer Co.; as well as 2 counties in Nevada: Douglas Co. & Washoe Co.
We are waiting on a Resolution to be passed by El Dorado County Board of Supervisors as well as a Consent Letter from the Placer County Board of Supervisors… We are also waiting on Special Event Permits from California State Parks that will permit us to use Vikingsholm Parking Lot, Gate Keepers Museum Parking Lot and Kings Beach Plaza to host our 3 major rest stops on the California side of the course… We are also working out details with our host hotel, Hard Rock Casino Resort – Lake Tahoe to see how they will host our event venue and serve our after ride meal at the Pool… This has and continues to take some time for these approvals and numbers of participants allowed to ride and conditions set forth to allow us to safely produce the ride on September 12, 2021.
We are more positive that Bike the West may be able to produce this ride as long as all participants, staff & volunteers are vaccinated, but in reality, we cannot require this as a condition to register and ride the event, although we recommend being vaccinated… If we are able to attain all approvals to produce the ride, all participants will have to assume, at their own risk / liability, to ride and comply with covid restrictions that may be in place in September…
We are doing our best to navigate through these continuing and changing phases / color tiers for the safety and health of all participants, staff & volunteers, as well as visitors and locals in the surrounding communities around Lake Tahoe… And, Yes, this is not an easy plug-in and play procedure as we have performed for the past 30 years…

This year’s tour is special and will feature fun and historic activities / programs in each host community… Online registration for this event is will be limited to 40 participants. All participants, staff & volunteers will be required to abide by any and all Covid restrictions that may be in place at the time of the ride.
Our condolences go out to everyone, as we have all made sacrifices and endured a very challenging year. There is Light at the end of the Tunnel… We hope with a vaccine in place that there will soon be more clarity on rules, regulations, and phases/tiers for reopening the states and counties that our rides traverse. We all want to get out and ride with friends & family… Our team is looking forward to welcoming you back to our fully supported rides when it is safe to do so.
