About the Ride Director – TGFT = “The Guy From Tahoe”

Curtis Fong is the Founder, CEO & Event Director, of TGFT Productions, LLC / Bike the West and is one of the founding fathers of the Alta Alpina Cycling Club in 1983.

He helped bring back, directed & built the Death Ride from 1984-1995. As an avid bicyclist, all of his events are “designed by bicyclists for bicyclists”. His experience in creating and building events from the ground up has given him the knowledge to continue developing a variety of quality rides. He has produced such rides as The Death Ride – Tour of the California Alps, the Comstock Silver Century, The Challenge with Greg LeMond Bicycle Race Series, Death Camp, The Nevada City Classic Century, The Altitude 9000 Ride with the Mammoth Cycling Classic, The X Rides, Tour Las Vegas Ride of the Century, America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride – Lake Tahoe, OATBRAN – One Awesome Tour Bike Ride Across Nevada, Tour de Tahoe – Bike Big Blue, Start at the Top Amgen Lake Tahoe Legends Ride and Tour of the Carson Valley Barbecue & Ice Cream Social. He also consults with the Tahoe Sierra Century, Fallon No Hill Hundred, Mother Lode Century and the Alta Alpina Challenge – Riding the Wild Sierra.

He is also a charter member of the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition and serves on their Board of Directors as the Vice President and is past VP of the Alta Alpina Cycling Club. He is an active member in other bicycling related organizations such as The Bicycle Ride Directors Assn. of America – BRDAA,  TAMBA – Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association, LAB – League of American Bicyclists, IMBA – International Mountain Biking Association, Tahoe Rim Trail Association, Carson Valley Trails Association, Bikes Belong, Rails to Trails and more…

He is an active member of the South Shore Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, North Lake Tahoe Chamber & Resort Association, Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Reno-Tahoe Territory of the Nevada Commission on Tourism and serves his community as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra.

He has produced programs and presentations for the Nevada Department of Transportation’s Pedestrian & Bicycle Conference, Cycle California! Magazine’s BE-Pro Conference, Nevada Commission on Tourism’s Rural Round Up and more…

He has received numerous honors and awards from the Nevada State Governor’s Conference on Tourism, and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Achievement Award from the Nevada Bicycle Advisory Committee, South Shore Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce Blue Ribbon Award Recipient for Tourism in 2013.

His other interests also includes membership as a ski journalist in the West Region of the North American Snowsports Journalists Association, where he serves as the Vice President of Programs and has recently received the NASJA Mitch Kaplan Award for Excellence in Snowsports Coverage. He is also a member of the International Skiing Heritage Association and the US Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame. For 25 years, he has produced Radio, Television and Columns in Lake Tahoe Snowsports Media with his “The Guy From Tahoe” Mountain Resort Reports on KTHO Radio AM590/96.1FM and his winter Website, BikeandSkiTahoe.com, He has hosted the morning television “Mountain Resort Report” and produced “What’s Up Tahoe” on Outside Lake Tahoe Television and writes a weekly ski column “As the Bull Wheel Turns” in the Tahoe Daily Tribune. He was also recently inducted in the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Other passions include Fly Fishing and collecting and driving-racing Porsche Sports Cars and has served as the VP of the Sierra Nevada Region of the Porsche Club of America.
